Engineers WIthout Borders Bridge Project Completed in Gualindo Arriba, El Salvador

This project was selected as an Engineers Without Borders-USA 2011 Premier Project. Thrush Engineering, Inc. performed voluntary efforts for the analysis and design for this single span box concrete structure capable of supporting school busses and emergency vehicles over a rainy season,  high volume, high velocity waterway.  Form design utilizing timber posts, cribbing and planking for walls and elevated horizontal slabs was also a part of this project.

Design of the structure was coordinated with Engineers Without Borders-USA personnel and reflected the use of manual construction methods and lower strength concrete and reinforcing steel indigenous to the region’s geographic market.

The bridge need is reflected by allowing school busses and other priority vehicles to remain active during the area’s rainy season.

Construction of the project was completed in 2011.
